British packaging firm Rexam Plc has received permission from Russia's anti-monopoly watchdog to acquire Russian drinks can maker Rostar from En+ Group. At the second hearing Rexam was represented by EPAM Law.
Today, in the port of Huelva, Spain, two trawlers – Yuosas Alexonis and Trawlmeister Mogutov, were returned to their legal owner, Russian State company Archangelsk Trawler Fleet (ATF), after being misappropriated in 2004 by the international group headed by the Mauritanian businessman Abass Bugurbal. The interests of Archangelsk Trawler Fleet were represented by EPAM.
Moscow, December 12, 2007. Man of the Year national award ceremony took place in Christ the Saviour’s Cathedral in Moscow. Among this year's prize winners are Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation; Alexii II, Patriarch; Leo Bokeria, cardio surgeon; Rodion Shedrin, composer; Alisher Usmanov, businessman. In the “Legal” nomination the award was given to Boris Puginsky, co-founder of and named partner in EPAM Law Firm for “Major contribution to the national jurisprudence”.
The ceremony for the Best Russian Law Departments Awards, decided through research by Corporate Lawyer magazine took place today in Moscow. The event, supported by law offices EPAM, was attended by more than 250 participants: heads of the law departments nominated, members of the Expert Committee and special guests, including partners of leading Russian and international law firms, and media representatives.
This year the Annual IBA Conference took place on 14-19 October in Singapore. EPAM was represented by Mr. Ilya Nikiforov, Managing Partner of the St. Petersburg Office, and Ms. Maria Miroshnikova, Senior Lawyer of the Moscow Office.
Moscow - Oslo, September 25, 2007. – The Supreme Court of Norway announced its decision to dismiss all charges against two Russian vessels, “Captain Gorbatchev” and “Dmitry Pokramovitch”, arrested by the Norwegian authorities in October 2005, charged with breaching Norwegian fishing regulations. EPAM represented the Russian side.
Parties confirmed the completion of its previously announced US$1.54 billion strategic investment in Magna International Inc., a Canadian company listed on the Toronto and New York Stock Exchanges. EPAM, together with foreign consultants, advised on the deal.
Spain’s Council of Ministers confirmed the decision to extradite Abass Boughourbal, a citizen of Mauritania, to the Russian Federation . He is accused of unlawful appropriation of three fishing trawlers owned by the Russian Federation. This achievement was the result of well-coordinated actions by the Russian Federal Agency for Property Management, Russian General Prosecutor’s Office, the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Russia, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Spain, the top management of the OJSC Arkhangelsk Trawler Fleet, Spanish lawyers and EPAM that represented Russia at the proceedings regarding the recovery of the trawlers.
Elena Krotova Sebag, an attorney-at-law of EPAM, was appointed representative of Russian National Committee of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC Russia) in Commission on Intellectual Property of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
On 26th/27th June London hosted LexisNexis Butterworths’ International Litigation and Fraud Conference. Cosponsor of the event, EPAM was represented by Maria Miroshnikova and Anna Yakovleva who spoke on “Evidence gathering, remedies and relief in Russia”.
Dimitry Afanasiev, member of the Partners’ Committee and Founding Partner of EPAM became the first Russian lawyer to sit on the Board of Advisers of Best Lawyers in America. Also, the Best Lawyers Board of Advisers includes Jerome Shestack, former President of the American Bar Association and EPA&P’s US senior adviser.
Today the All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow hosted the international conference “Russian Anti-Trust Law in an International Context”. The conference was presented by the Global Forum for Competition and Trade Policy and the European Forum of the International Bar Association and co-sponsored by the Section of Antitrust Law of the American Bar Association. Grigory CHERNYSHOV, senior attorney of EPAM, spoke on “Antitrust Approval of the Foreign Companies Shares Transaction”.
On May 23, 2007 the inaugural meeting of the Non-Profit Partnership for Promotion of Competition took place - a group that joins together leading antitrust lawyers and economists specializing in competition matters. Grigory Chernyshov, a Senior Lawyer at EPAM Law, was elected member of the General Council of the Partnership.
