On February 3, 2022, Mikhail Kazantsev, Partner, Head of Public Policy, Real Estate and Natural Resources Practices at Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasiev & Partners Law Offices was included in the list of public representatives of the Presidential Commissioner for Entrepreneurs’ Rights of the Russian Federation. Mikhail's activities will be directed at protecting the interests of the business community on issues of eco-energy and climate legislation.
Previously, Mikhail was a member of the board, deputy general director and head of the legal department at the largest Russian geological exploration holding - JSC Rosgeology, where he led a division of more than 100 lawyers from the Russian Federation. This legal division was particularly involved in the implementation of the company’s key projects aimed at increasing the efficiency of the reproduction of the Russian Federation’s mineral resource base.
Prior to joining Rosgeology in 2016, Mikhail worked at EPAM for over 10 years, 6 of which as a Partner.
Mikhail also worked in the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation, where he headed the legal department of the St. Petersburg Customs Office and held various senior in-house management positions.
The Institute of the Business Ombudsman is responsible for the organisation of work on the out-of-court restoration of the rights of businessmen violated by state bodies and the settlement of disputes between business and government. The commissioner has the right to defend the interests of business in court, suspend departmental and regulatory acts until a court decision is made, and, as interim measures, apply to the court for a prompt suspension of the actions of officials.
