Pavel's areas of expertise include intellectual property rights enforcement, transactional IP and data protection, and laws and regulations specific to the TMT (technology, media and telecommunications) sector. Being a registered trademark and patent attorney, he is admitted to represent clients before the Russian PTO.
In terms of IP rights enforcement, Pavel has represented and advised both multinational and Russian organisations including Conde Nast Russia, Formula One Group, Sanofi, Celltrion, Astra Zeneca, Nokian Tyres, Bayer, Essen Production, CTC Media, Slavyanka Confectionery Factory, etc.
On the transactional and IP contracts side, Pavel has advised Microsoft, Facebook, Sony Music Entertainment, Bristol-Myers Squibb, American Railcars Industries, Kimberly-Clark, Cisco Systems and many other companies.
An experienced litigator, Pavel has been involved in a number of complicated IP and commercial disputes, including representation of five Russian telecom companies in a complicated debt recovery dispute with the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, and acting for a large Russian oil and gas company in a dispute amounting to more than USD 1 bln.
Pavel is a recognized IT and data protection expert. Being a co-organizer and speaker of the Russian IT Lawyers Discussion Club, he has advised major software and hardware vendors, distributors and system integrators, as well as e-commerce companies. His experience in advising on personal data protection compliance includes acting for pharmaceutical, FMCG, e-commerce, oil and gas, and professional services companies.
Pavel's career includes chairing IP/TMT practice group at Magisters law firm and working at Rospatent, Russia's federal service for IP, patents and trademarks. In 2011, he had a four months' secondment to the New York office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP, a leading US-based litigation firm.
He has been named Lawyer of the Year for Information Technology Law by Best Lawyers 2018.
Pavel holds a Law degree from the State University - Higher School of Economics and a PhD in Law from the Russian State Institute of Intellectual Property. He also accomplished SABIT's "Intellectual Property Rights for Eurasia" program in the USA and the "Intellectual Human Resources for IP Protection" program at the State University - Higher School of Economics.
Pavel is a member of Enforcement Committee in the International Trademark Association (INTA), Deputy Chairperson of the Association of European Businesses (AEB) Intellectual Property Committee, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia Council on Intellectual Property. He is a Vice-Chairman the ICC Russia Commission on Intellectual Property. He has been admitted to the Moscow Bar Association.
