Evgeny Raschevsky spoke at the International Conference on International Arbitration and State Courts: Balance of Interests

December 1, 2010 – Today the International Conference on “International Arbitration and State Courts: Balance of Interests”, organised by ICC Russia together with ICC International Court of Arbitration and the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, took place with the support of EPAM.

Traditionally, the ICC Russia holds international conferences with ICC International Court of Arbitration and Russian Supreme Arbitrazh Court at the end of the year. These events aim at cooperation between state and arbitration courts, and relevant development trends in the international arbitration.

This year the conference was attended by top officials of the Supreme Arbitrazh Court of the Russian Federation and ICA ICC as well as practicing judges of the state courts from a number of European countries, including:

• A.A. Ivanov, Chairman of the Supreme Arbitrazh Court of the Russian Federation, Moscow
• Jason Fry, Secretary General of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, France
• Sir Anthony Colman, Chartered Arbitrator and Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a former judge of the Commercial Court at the High Court of London, UK
• Dominique Hascher, Chairman of the Appellate Court of Reims, Associate Professor at the University of Paris I (Pantheon-Sorbonne), France

The programme of the event also included reports from renowned international and Russian industry professionals.

Evgeny Raschevsky, a partner at EPAM, presented a report on the subject of “The Choice of Russia as a Jurisdiction for Dispute Resolution” during the “Determining Applicable Law and Application of Non-Russian Law in International Disputes” session. In his presentation he touched upon the issue of perception of Moscow as a place for court hearings, analyzed the details of cases tried in Russian courts, involving international parties and reviewed the particulars of selecting Russia as a dispute resolution jurisdiction for CIS businessmen.

The Conference was timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the ICC World Council officially accepting Russia to the World Business Organization and unanimously approving the establishment of the national ICC committee in Russia – ICC Russia, and concluded with a celebratory reception.
