EPAM nominated for Legal Business European Law Firm of the Year award

EPAM has been nominated for the Legal Business European Law Firm of The Year award. It is the first Russian legal firm to receive such a nomination.

Hailed as “The Oscars of the Legal Industry”, The Legal Business Awards celebrate the achievements of the leading lawyers around the world. EPAM has been nominated for the Legal Business European Law Firm of The Year award.

A panel of judges formed by the industry’s leading journalists, key market influencers and opinion formers, chose the best firms and lawyers in the world, having based their decision on the merits and achievements of the firms and individuals over the year. The European Law Firm of the Year category focuses on the national practices of independent domestic firms, as well as local affiliates of international law firms. EPA&P has been the only Russian firm to be nominated in this category.

Having advised on merger of Russian Aluminium, SUAL and Glencore, estimated at $30bn, EPA&P became the first Russian firm to make the top 10 M&A consultants ranking, as voted by the Mergers & Acquisitions magazine in 2006. The European Law Firm of the Year nomination is a much-deserved recognition for the firm and tops off a phenomenal year of the often ground-breaking work EPA&P has done representing its Russian and international clients in areas like capital markets, M&A, litigation, tax and finance, as well as for its involvement in numerous high-profile cross-border transactions.

Commenting on the nomination, Dimitry Afanasiev, member of the Partners' Committee of EPA&P, said: “It is a great honor and privilege for us to be nominated for such an award and to be the first Russian firm to be recognised amongst the international legal elite. We are proud to show that there is a viable case for developing a professional legal sector in Russia that can compete alongside international law firms”.

Earlier this year The Lawyer magazine included Dimitry Afanasiev in their list of ’World Shakers of the legal profession’ and has named him as one of the lawyers ‘who will help shape 2007’.
