MOSCOW- PHILADELPHIA. June 1, 2009. – The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has announced that on June 26, 2009, it will hold a Status Conference in $8 million civil suit for damages filed against the U.S. millionaire Andrew Mogilyansky on April 30, 2009. Five young women, Mogilyansky’s victims, are represented by EPAM Law (Russia) and Fox Rothschild LLP (the USA).
The civil case, filed on April 30, 2009, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania accuses Mogilyansky, who has dual citizenship in Russia and the U.S., of recruiting the girls from a St. Petersburg orphanage into an online-based child prostitution business in Russia. At the time, all five young women involved were minors fifteen years of age or younger.
The verdict in relation to Mogilyansky criminal case is expected to be announced on July 30, 2009. A Status Conference in the civil case will be held on June 26, 2009.
“Russian and American investigators have done a great job together. Punishing criminals, however, criminal proceedings do not guarantee that victims will receive compensation for damages inflicted on them. We expect to recover the damages in a civil suit. This is one of the rare occurrences where the most helpless of Russian victims will get their chance to bring legal action in the U.S. court and to recover compensation for the damages”, said Dimitry Afanasiev, the Chairman of EPAM.
