EPAM defended the First Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia in labour dispute

EPAM has successfully defended the interests of Alexander Chazhengin, the First Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia proving that his rights had been infringed and that the opponent, i.e. the Government of the Republic of Karelia, was to comply with the court decision reinstalling Chazhengin to his earlier position.

Alexander Chazhengin was dismissed in June 2013 as part of a series of changes to the government staff, lead by the Head of the Republic of Karelia whithout a valid reason for the dismissal. He filed a claim seeking to defend his rights, but the Petrozavodsk City Court had ruled against Chazhengin. EPAM' team has joined the dispute at this stage, and on October 25, 2013 the Supreme Court of Karelia did reinstate him thus reversing the decision of the lower court.

The court officer, however, established that the court decision was impossible to implement due to the removal of the position earlier held by Chazhengin stating also that the procedure for and the mode of enforcement of the court decision were not clear. The court officer and the debtor filed relevant claims. On November 1, 2013 the court dismissed the claims filed by the Head of the Republic of Karelia. The court officer’s claim was satisfied, and thus the Chazhengins’ reinstallment was suspended.

This decision was then reversed in the Supreme Court of Karelia, and Alexander Chazhengin was successfully reinstalled.
