Vladimir Talanov Acts as Arbitrator at the European Rounds of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition

On March 4-7 and 11-14, 2021, the European rounds of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition were held under WTO law and sponsored by the WTO and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva. Vladimir Talanov, International Trade and Customs Counsel at EPAM, acted as the presiding arbitrator for both European rounds.

The competition represents mock proceedings at the WTO’s Dispute Settlement Body involving teams from all over the world. The 2021 case addressed the jurisdiction of the WTO’s Dispute Settlement Body, the labelling of goods designed to curb the spread of noncommunicable diseases, the use of relevant WTO international standards, the prohibited use of certain trademarks, as well as the procedure for re-exports and destruction of goods under the provisions of the new WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement.
