Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev addresses participants and guests at Kazan Legal International Forum, sponsored by the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan and Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners

Dear colleagues,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Kazan Legal International Forum.

Today, the capital of Tatarstan has become a unique platform for discussion which has brought prominent lawyers together with government and business leaders from a variety of countries to consider current issues in the development of the law and the economy and how the two are interlinked and influence one another.

Interest in these questions is only natural, especially given the conditions that we face today. After all, the law has the potential to become a key factor in economic growth, providing a fresh impetus to the development of our most important industries and strengthening international cooperation. We have more than a few examples of cases where, thanks to the right quality of legal regulation, the business climate is improving, investment activity is on the increase, and new opportunities are opening up for small and medium-sized businesses and for large-scale investment projects. I’m sure you’ll discuss all of this in detail during the Forum.

I’m sure that the upcoming sessions will give rise to professional and productive discussions which will be of interest to, and useful for, everyone who takes part. They will help you to share experiences and fresh ideas, forge new business contacts, and find practical applications for your recommendations and proposals.

I wish you all a productive experience and our foreign guests a memorable stay in Kazan.

D. Medvedev
