New Victory for EPAM in One of Biggest Bankruptcy Cases in Modern Russian History

Attorneys of the Litigation Practice at EPAM in St. Petersburg have successfully defended the interests of the founders of air carrier Transaero in a dispute over a major loan that formed part of the company’s bankruptcy proceedings.

The bankruptcy trustee for Transaero filed a challenge to a loan contract that had granted the company RUB 250m, as well as a claim to recover interest paid.

During hearings at the North-Western District Arbitrazh Court, our associates were able to prove that the bankruptcy trustee’s claim that the loan was invalid was unfounded, and that the Transaero leadership team had acted reasonably and in good faith. As a result, the court rejected the bankruptcy trustee’s claim.

This is yet another win for the Firm’s attorneys in the Transaero bankruptcy case, one of the biggest of such cases in modern Russian history.

The team working for the Client on the case includes Counsel Evgeny Gurchenko, Senior Associate Artem Magunov, and Associates Alexander Svashenko and Yulia Sevostyanova, under the leadership of Ivan Smirnov, Managing Partner of the St. Petersburg office.
