Firm representatives to participate in ‘Medicine and Law in the 21st Century’ Conference

On 15–16 November 2012, the IV  ‘Medicine and Law in the 21st Century’ annual scientific and practical conference will take place in St. Petersburg, and include international involvement.  The Managing Partner and advocates from the St. Petersburg Law Office of EPAM will speak at the conference.

The ‘Medicine and Law in the 21st Century’ conference, organized by St. Petersburg State University and the St. Petersburg Association of Medical Law, was first held in 1999. It has since become a platform for discussing the most pressing issues concerning legal regulation in public health.

Conference participants will discuss various aspects of legal regulation in public health at national, regional, and international levels. Particular attention will be paid to matters concerning the legal consequences of Russia’s entry into the WTO for the country’s health service. In addition, there will be discussions on traditional issues regarding law enforcement in the field of public health, the responsibility of medical care facilities, and legal competence and judicial practice in cases of iatrogenesis, as well as other matters.

Ilya Nikiforov, Managing Partner of EPAM, as well as a number of advocates, will participate in the conference.

  • Vladislav Arkhipov will act as the moderator of the session ‘Legal Aspects of Electronic Document Management and Information Technologies in Health Care’, and will speak about the major legal issues in electronic document management in health care.
  • Marina Nohrina will give a report on the regulation of medical services in ‘Principles, Definitions and Model Rules of European Private Law. Draft Common Frame of reference’.
  • Irina Skidan will speak about the major legal issues for foreign investments in Russian medical projects.
  • Tatiana Kunah will give a presentation on compliance with laws on personal data protection in telemedicine.
  • Vladimir Talanov will speak about new aspects in the regulation of medical care and access to medications in the light of the TRIPS Agreement and WTO practice.
