Ays Lidzhanova represents clients in complex multi-jurisdictional disputes, international commercial arbitration, and at all levels of Russian courts. Ays has extensive experience in cross-border restructuring, insolvency, asset tracing and recovery proceedings.
Ays's projects have been featured in The Lawyer Top 10 Cases and are widely publicised due to the full range of legal issues raised and their precedent-setting claim value. Her notable projects include:
- Representing Bank Saint Petersburg, one of the largest Russian banks, in a USD 500mn dispute with its borrower in the High Court of Justice (UK), as well as coordinating cross-border litigation and recovery proceedings in France, Bulgaria, Cyprus, and the BVI (asset tracing, interim relief, judgment recognition and enforcement).
- Representing Total S.A. in a USD 30bn international commercial arbitration under the 1992 oil and gas exploration agreement with Russian regional government.
- Representing founders of Transaero, formerly the second largest Russian airline, in a landmark bankruptcy case involving the largest vicarious liability claim ever filed in Russia (USD3.8bn).
Ays graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University Law School – Russia’s premiere law school – where she is currently a PhD candidate writing a thesis on cross-border insolvency. Ays has studied international disputes at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law (USA) as a fellow of The Brooks Nanda Russian Law Fellows Program.
Ays is a member of the International Insolvency Institute NextGen Program, Thought Leaders for FIRE (Fraud. Insolvency. Recovery. Enforcement.), Asset Recovery NextGen, and YSIAC.
Being an active member of the professional community, Ays regularly speaks at international and domestic conferences and conducts legal trainings and webinars. Ays is an academic researcher and author of a number of publications.
