EPAM Remains the Only CIS-Based Law Firm Top Ranked by GAR 100

EPAM has been listed among top-100 international arbitration practices worldwide by the prestigious Global Arbitration Review (GAR 100). For the sixth year running it continues to be the only CIS law firm recognized by the GAR 100.

This year the GAR 100 again recognizes EPAM as one of the leading law firms both in Russia and Ukraine. The directory recognises the member of the Partners' Committee Dimitry Afanasiev for his “strong connections with various home-grown corporations and foreign entities.” Managing Partner Ilya Nikiforov, the first arbitrator from Russia selected for a SIAC panel and the Vice Chair of the Russian formed Arbitration Association, is also recommended by the GAR 100.

There’s also Serhii Sviriba, Managing Partner of EPAM in Ukraine, head of Ukraine’s arbitration commission and of Ukraine’s national committee for the ICC International Court of Arbitration, who led the team that translated the ICC rules in Ukrainian. Among the Firm’s most significant clients the GAR 100 mentions Russian Railways, Nestlé, A1 Group, Irish Bank Resolution, Neocorp, Hochtief, Pacific Inter-Link, BP, Telenor, TeliaSonera, Sibirskiy Cement, Moldova’s Agroindbank, etc.

Among the Firm’s most prominent cases the GAR 100 mentions St Petersburg office successful work for European shareholders in Agroindbank, Moldova’s largest bank, successfully challenge an ad hoc award that would have served as a legal basis to write off shares in the bank held by the firm’s clients.

A team led by Partner Evgeny Raschevsky represented a Russian investor in a trio of successful cases relating to the same smelting plant in Tajikistan.

The guide also mentions the Firm’s representing the Russian government in a dispute with ExxonMobil at the SCC Arbitration Institute.

Among EPAM’ most prominent cases in Ukraine the GAR 100 mentions successful work representing State of Ukraine in an ICSID claim brought by US construction company, as well as a US$35 million claim by US poultry exporters – the first successful use of ICSID’s summary dismissal procedure.
