Ilya Nikiforov took part at the international seminar Remedies in International Arbitration

The two day seminar on international arbitration was held on November 24-25, 2011 in Yekaterinburg. Ilya Nikiforov, managing partner of the St. Petersburg office of EPAM, took the floor at the event.

The seminar organised by the Urals Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Institute was held at the conference-hall of the Urals Chamber of Commerce.

The event supported by the Federal Arbitration Court of the Ural and the Sverdlovsk Region Arbitration Court brought together leading Russian and Swedish experts, representatives of local and international law firms and other members of the arbitration community.

Managing partner of the St. Petersburg office of EPAM Ilya Nikiforov took part in two sessions of the seminar. He moderated Panel 1 In Anticipation of Arbitration that covered the following issues:

  • Tasks of in-house lawyers at the stage of drafting of arbitration agreements
  • Legal and practical effects of arbitration agreement
  • The role of a legal counsel
  • Preparations for the proceedings: working with foreign counsel, fact-finding and collecting of evidence

Ilya Nikiforov also delivered a presentation within Panel 5 Remedies in Arbitration: Special Features. The speakers discussed such issues as burden of proof and evidence in arbitration, expert evidence, specific performance or compensation, existing approaches in foreign legal systems, and methods of evaluation of compensation

Each session was followed by the Q&As session with interactive participation between the speakers and the audience.
